Ethnic minority people of Vietnam
I have just returned from a quick trip to northern Vietnam. I visited three areas – the mountain district around Sapa (near the Chinese border), Halong Bay and Hanoi. This post focuses on the ethnic minority people around Sapa. The markets in this area were a fantastic source of subject matter. After taking an overnight train from Hanoi I transferred to a local market with a wide range of goods on offer – ranging from livestock, to food, clothing and lots of other offerings. I stayed in the area for two nights before returning to Hanoi. Sadly the weather was against me seeing the mountains and wasn’t great for landscape photography but there was the chance for some people photography. The locals come from far and wide to these markets, often setting out very early in the morning to sell and barter their wares.
Most of the photos in this post are of flower Hmong people who wore particularly colourful clothing but are very shy towards the camera. I hope you like the gallery.
